Second Chance Donor/Transplant Support Group, based in Tupelo, invites all donor families and transplant recipients of Mississippi to participate in a Mississippi Donor/Transplant Recipient Quilt. Dedicated to the memory of loved ones and those anonymous people who have given the Gift of Life, each quilt square commemorates their love and our appreciation of their unselfishness. The Quilt will travel the state of Mississippi to help spread the message of the continuing need of organ and tissue donors, and to remember those who already are donors. Eye, tissue and all organ donors and recipients are encouraged to participate.

How Can I Make a Patch?
Your quilt patch should be an 8 " square, allowing a 1/4 inch seam on all four sides (design must be within 7 1/2 inches). You may use any material - including sentimental materials. Do not "finish the patch with quilting or backing. The squares will be joined together and the quilt assembled at one time. 0 You may use crayons, paint, hand or machine embroidery, fabric markers, lace, appliques, cross stitch, threads or any other medium to design the square. You may adorn the square with a transferred photograph, poem, quotes, and/or symbols. Sew, fabric glue and/or Stitch Witchery can be used. Use your creative imagination! Please feel free to use your name, dates, transplant center and/or type of transplant, etc. as information on your square. When is the Deadline? Panels will continue to be constructed as families participate by sending completed squares. How and were do I send my patch? You may want to take a picture of your square before you send it to us so you will always remember your design. Enclose the square in a plastic bag to ensure that it arrives clean and safe. Please include your name, address and phone number on a separate piece of paper and mail along with the square. You are also invited to share your story. These stories will be placed in a scrapbook along with a photo of each square. They should be mailed along with the completed square. We feel this will be a special bonding project between donor families and recipient families in Mississippi and will extend support and love to each other and encourage other families to consider The Gift of Life of Organ Donation. The quilt will available for display during educational and awareness programs throughout the state. |
