Mariners's Compass Stars by Carol Doak.
As the author of sixteen quilt books and the designer of over a thousand paper-pieced quilt blocks, I never cease to be amazed at how an entirely new approach to a concept can be born from a simple inspiration. The inspiration for this book came as I was preparing to teach quilt workshops on a quilting cruise. Cruise classes tend to he a bit relaxed, and small projects that are appropriate for quilters of all levels are best. To tie in with the cruising theme, I focused on the style of the Mariner's Compass block, with its dramatic radiating and overlapping rays, where the easily achieved accuracy of paper foundation piecing shines best. However, I didn't want a block with a circular shape, requiring the students to learn curved piecing.

Pieces of Baltimore by Pam Bono Designs.
The twenty-four pieced blocks in this collection are all 18" square when finished. If you have made, or if you are planning to make the Pieces of Baltimore Block-of-the-Month, the blocks in this book are interchangeable. Blocks can be made with any background that you choose. We chose to make the quilts with a black, and with a muslin background. Therefore all fabric requirements for both black and muslin are designated as "background". If you are planning to use muslin, or a lighter colored background, we suggest making the "Love Birds", "Sailing Ship", and "Freedom" blocks with a dark background so that the white in the blocks does not fade into the background. With the exception of the three blocks mentioned above, all blocks are shown on both backgrounds in the block instructions. There are two borders to choose from, and as all sashing is 2" wide (finished), the borders are interchangeable as well. |

It's Not Just Another Cover-Up! by Pam Bono Designs.
The designs in this book bring new concepts for you to consider to make your surroundings beautiful in many ways, even for your best loved animal friend! Toaster covers, tea cozies, and sewing machine covers were deliberately left out of our plans as they are available in many other places. The window treatments in this book may be accomplished without a huge investment and are simple to do. It's amazing what can be done with a small investment and a little ingenuity and creativity. With the large number of pillow top mattress covers now in use, the ordinary queen sized quilt becomes a bit too small to meet the needs of these new and comfortable additions. AS sheet manufactures have made adjustments for the pillow tops, we also decided to enlarge our quilts a bit. They not only cover the top of the bed properly, but hang down far enough to make the quilt and coordinating borders more attractive. Many of you have gone into your favorite shop asking for suggestions to add more borders to accommodate the new depth of the pillow top mattresses. We hope that we have solved the problem with the designs in this book. |
