Rectrangles Book New Quick Piecing Tricks! by Pam Bono Designs.
The technique we are featuring in this book is not a new one, however we have found a way to use it with our other quick piecing techniques. As you can see, it can give a design a completely different look, and round off sharp points, giving the peiced design an applique look. It is simplified so that templates are no longer necessary, nor must you go through the proceedure of cutting the shapes; then trimming points, and finally matching triangular shapes to come up with a true rectangle. The method that we have developed assures that point match, even though trimming is necessary only after the unit is made. Most of the projects in this book are designed to teach you how the method works by using traditional blocks as a starting point. You will notice the huge difference this method can make, particularly with the traditional blocks in our Sampler quilt. In testing the procedure, we found that blocks in the Sampler quilt were assembled within 3 hour period. The people who pieced the blocks had never used the technique, and found it to be amazing how quickly the blocks went together. |

Claire's Cats by Darcy Ashton.
This book is named for, and dedicated to, my six year-old daughter Claire. We have two cats, Sockit and Pumpkin. Sockit is a dainty little black and white girl kitty and Pumpkin is a great big orange striped tom cat. Claire named both of our cats as well as the 35 cats and 12 mice in this book. She was a big help to me in planning which fabrics to use. I also had to include a mouse quilt for my four-year-old son, Christopher, who has gone soft on the mice :-). If mice are just not your thing, use the butterfly patterns in these 4" blocks. |

Quiltmakers Journey by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail de Marchen. In this touching; tale about the value of generosity and the
spirit of community, a brave young girl leaves her village in search of the true meaning of happiness.
But once outside her village, she is surprised to discover that there are less-fortunate people in the world. At first she thinks that she is unable to help them, but finally she realizes that she does have something to give. As she unearths the meanings of kindness and love, the young girl finds a strength and peace she never knew before. Jeff Brumbeau's beautiful and poignant fable for our times -a prequel to the well-loved, best-selling The Quiltmaker's Gift is illustrated by Gail de Marcken, whose sumptuous illustrations are as rich and detailed as the quilts made by the quiltmaker. |

Signed-By-Friends Quilts by Dori Hawks.
Signing quilts to be given as gifts has been popular for many years, originating when quilting began. Friends signed blocks for a new bride and
groom, for church fund-raisers and for special friends. They called them signature quilts. An experienced embroiderer usually embroidered the rrawes
on the blocks over the people's signatures.
With the invention ofpermanent fabric pens, quilters have corrtirrued this tradition. In this book, you will see signed blocks from a New York quilt event honoring the Statue of Liberty, quilting workshop teachers' signatures, signatures from an 80th birthday party, signatures of race car drivers, from members of a quilt guild honoring their, founder, from students paying homage to a favored teacher, names of butterfly varieties, an antique embroidered quilt, and signatures from a summer quilt festival. Have everyone sign fabric squares at your child's next birthday party or get everyone on your child's sports team to sign squares. Use one as a fund raiser for your church, school or quilt guild. Your favorite, fund can sell opportunities to place a name on a quilt that will be given away to one of the lucky signers, with all the proceeds going to the organization. Meet some new quilters at a quilt event, honor a retiring teacher, or just rccord the names of your family members. Whatever way you choose to use your signature quilt, it will memorialize the signers and provide a wonderful way to capture a special event. |
